Duncan Car Show Winners Announced
‘Winning at Cruisin’ the Chisholm Trail’
Duncan, Okla. – April 24th, 2017- The Cruisin’ the Chisholm Trail car and motorcycle show in downtown Duncan, Oklahoma was another success this past weekend. Main Street Duncan, Inc. hosted the 10th annual show on Main Street presenting over 70 trophies and over $1,000 in prizes at the event sponsored by Byford Auto Group of Duncan.
The ‘Best in Show’ winner was Mike Matty with his 1957 Chevy; he was awarded $500 for Best in Show from as well as a trophy. Elk Crossings Nursing Home sponsored the ‘Best Club Participation’ award, chosen by an Elk Crossing resident, given to the local Flat Cam Car Club. Duncan Mayor Ritchie Dennington selected Dan Eberhart as the City of Duncan pick, awarding him a trophy from the Special Awards categories. New this year to the special awards was the Longest Distance Traveled Award which went to Dawn Read traveling all the way from Cortez, Florida in her 1973 Dodge Challenger.
“We had a great two days,” said Main Street Duncan Car Show Chairperson, Jeff Bruehl “and had over 250 participants over the two-days.”
Forget Me Not Antique, owned by Linda Caveney, won the coveted ‘Best Window Display’ trophy and cash prize for the automotive themed windows. Rob Bellamy won the ‘Burnout Contest’ and was awarded a trophy and gift certificate to McNair’s Tires, compliments of Phil McNair. Steve Earnhart and the Empire Fire Department volunteered their time at the Burnout Contest keeping the spectators and participants safe while Jimmy Akers, of J&K Productions, emceed the event. New this year was the car and trailer giveaway, hosted by Osage Country Auto Sales. Winning the 1997 Z28 30th Anniversary Edition Camaro was Kathy Mead and winner of the car hauler trailer from Rezner Trailers was Dee Williams of DNS Body Shop in Marlow, Oklahoma.
“I’m grateful for the turnout for the 10th annual show considering the weather was brutual,” said Main Street Duncan Executive Director Destiny Ahlfenger, “and I’m honored to work with such dedicated volunteers that are already looking forward to the 11th annual show in 2018; we couldn’t continue to grow this show without a committee that is so invested in the success of Cruisin’ the Chisholm Trail.”
Main Street Duncan, Inc. annually hosts the Cruisin’ the Chisholm Trail car and motorcycle show the third weekend in April, set for April 20th and 21st, 2017 of next year. The fundraising event allows the program to continue to offer grants to the downtown Duncan merchants such as the Micro-Signage grant provided in the fall of 2017. The committee will continue to host car cruises throughout the year and the next cruise is set for Friday, June 23rd of 2017; cost is $10. Main Street Duncan is a 501(c)3 charity and all donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent of federal and state tax laws; the program has been affiliated with the Oklahoma Main Street Center and nationally accredited through the National Trust for Historical Preservation since 1986.
Main Street Duncan, Inc. has hosted the Chisholm Trail Car and Motorcycle Show since 2007. Since then, MSD and a team of volunteers have incorporated not only motorcycles into the show but also a Friday Night Car Cruise and Burnout Competition, a Kid's Cruise, window display contests for the Main Street merchants, and much more. Cruisin' the Chisholm Trail Car and Motorcycle Show has something for everyone. Traditionally, the first 200 registrants receive a free goody bag with entry that includes a dash plaque (like the one pictured above). Every year, the car show has a Best in Show prize of $500 in addition to the first and second place trophies for every category. The Cruisin' the Chisholm Trail Car and Motorcycle t-shirts sell quickly so order in advance and as always, have fun watching the free concert happening during the show in downtown Duncan, Oklahoma!
